If you love year-round grilling, you might want to look into a stove top grill like the Calphalon Grill . This way you can enjoy all the flavors of summer throughout the year, no matter where you live.

What makes for a good indoor grilling pan? Generally these products are square with raised ridges in the bottom. This creates the appearance of grill-grates without stepping foot outdoors.

Some of the features that are great, if you can find them, include a drainage spout for getting rid of grease and a nonstick cooking surface.

You also want a pan that has a long handle so you don’t get hit by playful oil droplets, and one that’s made from a material that disperses heat evenly.

Finally a grill with a lid is nice (not a necessity but it helps when cooking thicker cuts of meat, or if you want to steam something).

Postive Features

The Calphalon Grill is a very exciting little pan, especially if you’re an avid barbeque person like myself. There are days when standing outdoors just isn’t going to happen. This 11 inch Calphalon one nonstick grill pan is perfect for getting the look and flavor of my grill without donning boots and a scarf.

It heats up quickly and you can get it really hot for searing. Better still, the surface of this grill cleans up beautifully. It’s really no fuss especially if you treat it with a little olive oil or vegetable oil before cooking.

Considerations

Some Calphalon products don’t live up to their reputation or advertising. I’m happy to report this is NOT one of them. It’s sturdy, and seems like it would last for a very long time.

Note that it IS heavy (6 pounds). So if you have any issues with hand strength you might want to find something smaller.

I’m starting to feel like a Calphalon Grill seller but the consumer reviews on this mirror my thoughts very closely. The pan delivers everything it promises - from a stay-cool handle to beautiful grill lines and easy cleans up.

Since the food rests neatly on top of the ridges in the pan, you can steam vegetables (like corn on the cob) in this too – you just need to find something to put over top. The lack of a lid is the ONLY real downfall this piece has.

• Not Dishwasher safe:Wash by hand in hot soapy water, using a dish cloth

Care

• Before you cook with the Calphalon grill pan, wash it in hot soapy water with a nylon sponge or non-abrasive pad.
• Always allow your pan to cool before cleaning.
• Warping can occur if you immerse your hot pan into cold water.

Its well worth noting that Cook’s illustrated magazine ranks this among the top ten nonstick grills on the market. I agree wholeheartedly. Spring, summer, fall or winter, you’ll enjoy the barbeque-like taste and image this pan produces (remember: we eat with our eyes!). Enjoy.
