Calphalon Stockpot

calphalon stockpot

Stockpots are a wonderful addition to any kitchen, especially if you enjoy making soups and stews. The problem for any consumer is that there are a lot of different ones from which to choose.

This review introduces you to the Calphalon Stockpot , offering a full 8 quart capacity and ergonomic handling. If you’re thinking about investing in a stainless steel design stockpot, then this Calphalon stainless steel stockpot might be just what you are looking for.

Positive Features

As just mentioned, this calphalon stockpot has a great ergonomic design, specifically in the V shaped handles. Most stockpots of this size have heft to them, so well-crafted handles are a huge plus for kitchen safety.

Two more great features for this product is that it’s broiler safe up to 700 degrees, and also able to go into the oven up to 450 degrees. That means your stockpot can be used for a lot more than just stock and soup.

And when you’re investing on average over $100 in this piece, that versatility is a huge selling point. Having said that, the Calphalon Stockpot is very-well priced compared to other name brands out there, making this purchase a bit easier on the family budget. For people who can their soups, you’ll make back the cost of the purchase as you save on your grocery bill.

In terms of performance this pot heats evenly, and responds quickly to temperature adjustments. That means its ideal for fast or slow cooking. This feature also means the pot uses energy efficiently, something extra-nice in a “green” home.

Considerations

The handles are held on by rivets that are inside the pan. This slows clean up time considerably (and forget getting that area clean in your dishwasher).

Additionally the 11x11 size of this stockpot may make it hard to fit into most people’s dishwashers. Truthfully it’s probably better for the pan to wash it by hand anyway.

Consumer Reviews

The vast majority of reviewers were very, very pleased with the Calphalon Stockpot. People appreciated that it was comparatively affordable, very durable, and evenly balanced.

The ergonomic, cool-touch handles are a huge hit with everyone, making the pot more easily maneuvered. Consumers also appreciate the glass lid that allows you to monitor the food’s progress without letting heat out.

The only real complaint was the rivets noted under “Considerations.” Buyers weren’t sure of what material the rivets were made (important since they come in contact with the food), and they found this area very difficult to clean properly.

Features

  • 8 quart capacity
  • Stainless steel and aluminum, making for excellent heat distribution
  • Cool-Touch, V-shaped ergonomic handles
  • Tempered glass lid
  • Dishwasher safe
  • Oven safe to 450 degrees
  • Broiler safe to 700 degrees
  • 18/10 steel construction
  • Good for fast or slow cooking

Summary

The rivets alone don’t seem to be a big enough drawback if you’re considering this stockpot seriously. Yes, it may take a few more minutes to wash, but you haven’t spent over $250 on it either! Overall this is a great value for the money, and a solidly constructed product.
