Cuisinart Bread Maker CBK-200 Review

If you love fresh baked bread but fail woefully at making it from scratch the Cuisinart bread maker could be just the answer for which you’ve hoped.

Let’s face it – there is simply nothing like the smell of fresh baked bread. For frugally minded shoppers, it’s also a lot cheaper to make bread at home than buying it at the store (and you actually know what’s in each slice).

If you consider that a good loaf of bread runs over $2.00 whereas the ingredients for your bread maker cost under $1.00 – you’ve got immediate savings.

Additionally if you have any left over bread – you can make customized bread crumbs and croutons – two things that are way overpriced at the market.

Positive Features

cuisinart bread maker
This is a very powerful little bread machine that seems to provide nearly perfect results every time. The designers thought about dietary needs by including a low-carb and gluten free setting alongside 14 other menu options.

If all that variety wasn’t enough to make a gadget-lover say “wow” there’s also three crust colors and three loaf sizes from which to choose.

For someone who feels uncertain in the kitchen, the Cuisinart bread maker seems to include a lot of supports. For example, there’s a special tone that notifies you as to when to add things like nuts or fruits.

I also like the power-failure back up feature that keeps bread from being ruined when the lines go down. The delay start timer is also a very cool feature if you want to wake up to hot, fresh bread.

Considerations

Because of the brushed stainless exterior the average retail price on this unit is $230.00. I have found it on sale for $129, which is still a little high among bread makers. This machine is also pretty loud when it’s working – you nearly have to shout over it if you’re in the kitchen.

Consumer Reviews

The jury is definitely split on this product. People either love or hate the Cuisinart bread maker with very few individuals in the middle. Those who love it say the machine turns out picture perfect bread. These happy buyers also liked the look of the machine, its sturdy construction, and the diversity of breads it can produce.

Negative reviews sited a variety of issues. Some people did not like the quality of bread the machine produced. Others dislike the noise. Others still felt it was simply overpriced compared to other effective bread machines.

Features

  • Programmable machine
  • 16 preset bread options
  • 3 crust colors
  • 3 loaf sizes
  • 100 varieties of bread can be made with it
  • Tone for mix-ins
  • 3 year limited warranty

Summary

If possible it might be worth going somewhere that you can see this machine in action or taste the resulting bread to be sure you’ll be happy with it. Not all bread machines are created equal, and personal taste matters a lot here too. Bread machines make good fresh bread, but it’s still not quite the same as oven made loafs.
