Cuisinart Electric Skillet

cuisinart electric skillet
Electric skillets are among the most versatile kitchen utensils, which makes the Cuisinart electric skillet well worth a closer look. This particular skillet offers a non-stick surface that’s fantastic if you’re on a diet and wanting to limit your oil intake.
The brushed stainless steel surface and tempered glass cover makes for a lovely presentation too.

Let’s take a closer look at what this product offers.

Positive Features

Cusinart has created this large electric skillet big enough for family cooking. The 15” surface can serve up a good sized meal. Since this is a large and fairly hefty product (10 pounds), I like the die-cast stainless handles. These give you a firm, safe grip when you want to move the piece to the table.

The recipe book is a nice bonus as not everyone knows the complete range of cooking that skillets can provide. But with a temperature gage that goes up to 450 degrees, you have a LOT of options ranging from stir fry and low-level deep frying to simple bacon and eggs.

I also think that this is particularly nice on hot summer days when you might not want to heat up the whole house with the oven.

Considerations

It’s hard to find anything really negative to say about the Cuisinart electric skillet. About the only two flaws I see is that the cord is very short, which limits kitchen placement dramatically. Additionally for people who have arthritis, this pan may be too heavy when filled with food. Beyond that – this one’s a keeper!

Consumer Reviews

The reviews I’ve read for this product indicate that the vast majority of buyers are absolutely in love with their choice. They appreciate the durability, particularly in the non-stick surface that retains its finish. Additionally customers commented on the family-oriented overall cooking capacity (both in size and variety of food you can make), and the precision temperature control.

In terms of negatives, no on likes the short cord but unfortunately this seems to be a design issue with nearly every electric skillet on the market. Additionally some buyers found that removing the temperature control was difficult.

One interesting twist: people reported receiving a refurbished product when they thought they were buying something new. The way to check for refurbishment is to look at the serial number, which will be blacked out and changed. If you find this, then you have not gotten a NEW item (and have likely been charged just as much as new). Refurbished pieces may have small flaws in the non-stick surface as well. So check your items carefully if you buy.

Summary

My only concerns with the Cuisinart Electric Skillet are the reports of used merchandise being sold as a new item. That’s simply not a consumer-friendly practice.

The retail cost of $235 does not, in my opinion, represent a bargain. On sale you can find them for about $120, which is better – but still check and make sure you’re getting what you paid for.

When I wrote this review Amazon had this skillet priced at $119.99 and has free shipping with super saver.
