Cuisinart Griddle Gr 55 Review

Space-saving technology keeps taking new twists and turns. Just look at the Cuisinart Griddle Gr 55 as an example. Here you have a cooking surface – on one half you have a grill plate and on the other you have a suitable griddle surface.

This is a very clever combination especially if you happen to be a steak and egg lover! Let’s take a closer look at the machine’s pros and cons.

Positive Features

cuisinart griddle gr 55 If you looked at the Cusinart griddle and grill and thought – “gee just a little too big” then the size of this may appeal to you. The Griddler measures 20” x 7” X 13.5” so it’s a touch smaller for space-challenged kitchens.

The design illustrates some real thought on engineering side.

Both the griddle and grill plates come out of the machine and both sides of each are equally usable. That means if you want two grilling surfaces or two griddle surfaces – you’ve got that option.

The non-stick surface and the grease collection area both make for a smooth, easy cleanup. Finally, instructions that come with this appliance are clear and concise – no “interpretation” required!

Considerations

Unlike the larger-surfaced grill-griddle combinations, if you’re feeding several people you may have to make the meal in stages. The surface of the grill won’t match the temperature of charcoal or gas for really high heat, but that’s only a minor issue (you still get nice sear marks).

The biggest down side in my opinion is that if you’re cooking bacon or other greasy items the grease catcher only holds 4 ounces (you’ll need to watch it carefully to avoid overflow). You’d have to wait for the machine to cool down adequately to clean this in between servings.

Consumer Reviews

The Cuisinart Griddle Gr 55 is another product in the Cuisinart line that’s getting rave reviews from consumers. People love the versatility this smaller machine offers. The temperature control helps with cooking food “just right” and the non-stick surface saves time after dinner. Since the grill and griddle plates are safe for the dishwasher, and sized right, they go in with the rest of the dishes.

Buyers also noted that the machine is blissfully as smokeless as you can get for indoor grilling.

The only negative noted was that you need to give the machine plenty of time to cool before cleaning. For one thing, cleaning the grill plates hot can damage them (this is true with all non-stick surfaces). For another, the machine remains hot for quite some time.

Features

  • Nonstick surface
  • Removable Grill plate
  • Removable Griddle plate
  • Sensitive temperature control
  • Stainless steel accents for visual appeal
  • Cleaning tool
  • Instruction manual

Summary

The average price on the Cuisnart griddle Gr 55 ranges from $94 - $185. The consensus is that this appliance delivers on its claims and has a very smart design.

The cost is a little hefty, but if you want to grill indoors and have a machine that still performs well as a griddle, then this is a really nice option.

At the time of writing this review Amazon had this griddler at 59% off for a price of $75.94
