Presto Deep Fryer Review- Presto 05462 Digital ProFry
Immersion-Element 9-Cup Deep Fat Fryer

We give this Presto Fryer a star star star star rating.

The Presto Deep Fryer is an attractive appliance. It has stainless steel sides and handles that stay cool to the touch.

The 1800 watt immersion element heats up the oil quickly and efficiently. The element can be removed for cleaning just like the oil pot.

The digital display makes it easy to set your temperature and time. The 30 minute timer lets you cook your food with precision. The basket makes it easy to add and remove your food from the hot oil.

Positive Features

presto deep fryer
The Presto Deep Fryer is very simple to use. A red light is on while the oil is heating. When the oil is ready, it beeps and a green light comes on instead of the red one.

The timer lets you keep track of your food's progress. You can set the digital temperature control to one of 4 different temperatures: 300, 325, 350 and 375.

The cord attaches magnetically so if it gets caught on something it will detach rather than spill the hot oil. The oil temperature is maintained well and reheats quickly between batches of food.

The basket hooks onto the top of the pot to allow the hot food to drain before eating. You can fry enough for two or three people in the basket. The oil pot holds about a gallon of oil. The removable pot makes it easy to remove the oil from the fryer.

If you have never used a deep fryer before, the instructions are very clear and easy to understand.

Considerations

The filter on the Presto deep fryer does not do a great job at keeping the cooking odors contained.

Hand washing is best when caring for this unit. This may be an inconvenience for some people.

Sometimes the unit has a difficult time returning to full heat after some cooking has been done. You may want to double check the temperature with an independent thermometer.

Don't fill the pot all the way to the maximum fill line or your food won't be able to drain in the basket.

The digital readout only tells you the temperature you set it at, it doesn't tell you the actual temperature.

Foods that are full of moisture cook better with the lid off, which may allow oil to spatter the surrounding area.

Summary

The Presto Deep Fryer is a pretty good deep fryer. The cost is extremely reasonable and the fryer provides enough room to cook for two or three people. It looks nice on the countertop with its steel exterior.

The fryer comes apart easily for cleaning up. The electrical cord connects magnetically to keep the fryer from tipping over in case it gets caught on something.

It does take some time for the oil to return to the proper temperature after cooking.

If you are using any other appliance while using your deep fryer, you run the risk of overloading your breaker circuit. This fryer is adequate for most needs.
